Endermologie is a French technique used to smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. In general traditional liposuction is not usually helpful for this problem. Ultrasonic liposuction may be a surgical solution. When Endermologie was introduced to the United States in 1996 it was hoped that it would be the non-surgical answer to a difficult problem.
The principal of the technique involves massaging the affected skin between mechanical rollers. This creates a positive pressure from the rolling at the same time as a negative pressure is applied.
Its developers suggest that this massaging breaks up the fat below the skin and allows the body to excrete or remove it by normal physiological methods.
At this point there is very little scientific evidence to suggest that this mechanical method of massage is effective in permanently changing the appearance and shape of the skin. A number of preliminary scientific studies are underway and may clarify the issue over the next few years.

Other non-surgical methods that are supposed to remove fat include aminophylline cream and lipodissolve or mesotherapy.
