The most important thing your doctor needs to know before surgery is what do you want to achieve. Make certain that you tell your surgeon what it is you do not like and what you want corrected. Never hesitate to ask questions. Make certain your questions are answered before the day of surgery. Just before surgery is not a good time to ask questions. You may be sleepy and it is unlikely you will remember the answers.

The plan for surgery needs to be clear before you come to the operating room. Your surgeon needs to know about your general health and medical history. When you first came to the doctor's office, you were asked questions about your medical history. Please tell the doctor if there are any changes.

The doctor needs to know if you have any allergies, especially to antibiotics and pain killers. Tell your doctor about any medicines you regularly take. Especially important are heart medicines, blood thinners, insulin, etc. If you have had surgery, tell the surgeon when and what operations you have had. It helps to know if things went well or if you had complications, such as bleeding or anesthetic problems. Finally, tell the doctor about any previous treatments for the problem under treatment now.
