How do I look after my stitches?

You probably do not need to do anything special with your stitches. If your doctor needs you to clean the area they will tell you. You may have glue, paper tapes or steristrips over the stitches do not remove these tapes. They are an important part of the repair. You may get them wet but do not rub soap into them. Many doctors use stitches that dissolve. This mean your stitches do not have to be removed. If the stitches are removed they will come out at about a week. In some situations glue or staples are used and your doctor will give you information about their care.
