The author describes his experience with staged scalp reduction for male pattern baldness. Two to rarely five excisions are performed under local anesthesia. He believes that the reduction improves the results obtainable by hair transplantation and may reduce or eliminate the need for it. He encourages wider use of scalp reduction in the treatment of male pattern baldness.
