HUDSON'S PATIENTS interpersonal relationships after cosmetic surgery related articles I have seen many patients go through a period of major change in their interpersonal relationships after cosmetic surgery. This is related to changes in self confidence and the elimination of a feature which has been seen as disfiguring. I see this most commonly after rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. Rhinoplasty patients often become more outgoing and those who before surgery were unwilling to go out of the house may become regular party goers ! Many patients who have breast augmentation seem to have a major change in their life in the months after surgery. This often involves changes in their interpersonal relationships such as a change in job, marriage or divorce. Although the behaviour often seems out of character it always seems to moderate with time as patients determine what is most comfortable for them. It has been described as similar to the changes of adolescence. I recommend that patients enjoy the new sense of freedom which they have achieved but avoid making long term commitments or rash decisions. Not everyone who has cosmetic surgery experiences these changes and for many the transition to their new self is quite smooth.. Do not hesitate to ask questions.
