About 22% of the law suits filed concerning cosmetic surgery are for rhinoplasty or nose job. This is more than any other operation.

The most common complaints are:

  • an unsatisfactory result
  • asymmetry
  • cost of revision surgery
  • breathing problems that continue after surgery

The most common complaint is a poor result from surgery. There are several reason for this. The most important is that in this operation there is often a large difference between what the patient expects and the outcome.

It is very important that the surgeon does not encourage unrealistic expectation. Some surgeons feel that computer imaging is NOT helpful because it may suggest results that are not easy to achieve.

Even though the final outcome is satisfactory to the surgeon if the patient feels that it is a poor result it can have serious effects.

Screening for suitable candidates for surgery is an important part of the preoperative visit with the plastic surgeon.
