It is common for us to have concerns about some aspect of our appearance. This concern may sometimes be about a feature which is racially related. It may be that we like our appearance but want it modified to be more inconspicuous. In this way we may feel more comfortable about fitting in with members of own and other groups. At other times our concern may be a racial feature which make us feel uncomfortable even amongst members of our own ethnic background. In all cases the surgeon and the patient must discuss these things frankly so that a good decision can be made . A decision which is in the interests of the patient and is not simply a response to external pressures or a reflection of the surgeon's tastes. |
