Ptosis of the chin or witch's chin deformity, has two features. The first is a prominent crease under the chin (submental crease). The second feature is a mass of fleshy tissue which hangs below the chin.
Although this can occur in all age groups, it is more common in older people.
Several methods of treatment have been described. In all cases the skin is undermined and the crease released. Some surgeons excise the excess skin and the mass beneath the skin.
Another method is to reattach this fleshy mass through an incision in the mouth. Some surgeons feel that the best result is achieved by reattaching the mass and inserting a chin implant to fill out the excess skin. |
