When patients are considering whether they need an otoplasty one area that concerns them is the size of their ear. How do they know what is the normal size and shape?
The normal adult ear is about one ears length behind the bony rim of the orbit. This is about 6.5 to 7.5 cm or three inches. The width is about 50-60% of the height.
The top of the ear is on a line with the brow and the bottom of the ear with the bottom of the nose or even slightly lower. It inclines backwards at an angle of about 20 degrees.
