LATEST WEAPON IN BATTLE OF THE BULGE COMES TO NEW MEXICO

Albuquerque, NM, March 1, 1997: The newest surgical method for the removal of unwanted fat is being introduced to New Mexico by Albuquerque plastic surgeon Patrick Hudson MD PA, who says ultrasonic liposuction "offers a dramatic improvement" over traditional liposuction and is generating excitement among surgeons and patients who have recently become acquainted with this latest tool in the battle against the bulge.

"For the first time ultrasonic liposuction allows the surgeon to sculpt fat and allows us to do things we only dreamed of before. It may mean less pain, less bruising and less recovery time for some patients. It is really a tremendous advance and one I think many New Mexicans will want to learn more about," Hudson said.

Dr. Hudson, a board-certified plastic surgeon in practice in Albuquerque since 1979, recently returned from southern California where he was among the first 100 plastic surgeons in the nation and the first from New Mexico to complete special education courses and be certified to practice ultrasonic liposuction by the American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPS).

"Ultrasonic liposuction is one step fat removal. The fat is liquefied by ultrasonic waves emitted from a surgical wand and suctioned out at the same time. "In traditional liposuction, we vacuum the fat out in an often slow and laborious procedure which can cause significant problems for the patient. The difference between the two methods is like night and day and marks a major advance in cosmetic plastic surgery," declared Hudson

Dr. Hudson pointed out that traditional liposuction will still be the method of choice for some fat removal such as the neck and inner thigh because the fat in those areas is soft and easy to remove. "But ultrasonic liposuction will make a major impact for large areas of fat removal and in previously difficult areas such as the back and breast, especially in men."

While ultrasonic liposuction marks a significant advance, Dr. Hudson cautioned that all surgery contains risk and prospective patients should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. More information on ultrasonic liposuction is available through Dr. Hudson's office or on his web site, E-sthetics, at:
