SKIN RESURFACING

Concentration of TCA (trichloroacetic acid) face peel and the depth of the peel

related articles
The greater the concentration of TCA the skin before peelingdeeper the burn. Peels of 15%-25% work superficially and remove only the epithelial layers of the skin.

In concentrations of 35% to 50% the penetration is deeper into the dermal layers of the skin (papillary and reticular layers). This results in a deeper burn.

The concentration of chemical is one of many factors which the surgeon uses to control the depth of the peel.

In general, with all resurfacing procedures, the deeper the burn the greater the improvement but the more the complications and the longer the recovery.
