What makes a good setting for a holiday or vacation is not necessarily a good place for surgery. Patients often feel isolated and a little depressed as they recover from surgery. Think what it would feel like to do this in a hotel room. Having someone with you may help. Remember that not all cultures and countries have the same attitudes to cosmetic surgery.

You should also take into account the local climate and geography. If you also want a good vacation, you will want to be able to do something you like when you are recovered. This might be a visit to the theater in New York or a walk around Santa Fe. But think about it beforehand. It especially important to consider the climate and the altitude. Older people and those with lung problems may not do well suddenly arriving at high altitude and then having surgery. It may take several days or even weeks to adjust to a high altitude. A location that is too hot or cold also may not be so good. Unless you want to spend your recovery imprisoned in a hotel room you may not want to go to Phoenix in mid-Summer or Alaska in the Winter.

It also helps if you speak the language where you are going for surgery. Not only does this make it easier to get help in an emergency but allows you to get more out of leisure activities after surgery.

Check what local TV is available. It helps to have a TV channel in your own language. Even if you hate CNN at home it can be reassuring to an English speaker in a hotel room after surgery!
