Get a physical examination, blood tests and ECG (electrocardiogram), if needed, before you leave home. Make certain these are faxed or mailed to your surgeon in plenty of time. Your surgeon may decide on the basis of the test and reports that you are not a candidate for long distance surgery. This can also save you money if your local health plan pays for a routine physical.
